Eat Apples with the Skin

The fruit is rich in flavonoids, especially when eaten while still fresh with the skin. A cohort study in the U.S. proved to be every 10 g of fiber of 1 apple may reduce the risk of coronary heart disease by up to 30%.

Hyson's research at Davis School of Medicine, University of California, USA, proved the existence of the antioxidant activity of apple juice in vitro. The study was followed in vivo to 25 healthy people who ate 2 apples every day for 6 weeks. As a result, their LDL levels were down and it inhibited LDL oxidation which might lead to the occurrence of plaque in blood vessels.

A source from Cornell University, USA, stated the antioxidant contents in 100 g of unpeeled apples were 1,500 times greater than vitamin C so that the problem of atherosclerosis was inevitable.

Carotene and pectin contents in the form of crude fiber are anti-cholesterol when interacting with vitamin C.

Eat an apple every day with the skin but don't forget to always wash clean beforehand. "An apple a day keeps the doctors away" seems an adage still relevant today.
